Hey all, I'm helping my boss research some HDMI upscaling receivers for his HT setup. I've been out of the HT loop for a while so am just looking for a starting point. His budget is under $1000, and my criteria would be top-notch video processing at that price. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I too have been out ot the HT loop as I have been happy with my Denon 3805. Way before HDMI but it works and it works well. I am happy with optical DD 5.1. :)

The high-end Onkyos (last year's SR875 and SR905, this year's SR876 and SR906) have the Reon upscaler that's about the best thing out there. The 876 is about $900 by internet.

Onkyo 876 would be my choice since it can be found under 1K and has a Reon for Video and great processing.

Denon 1909, Pioneer 1018, Yamaha 663-863, either of the onkyos mentioned, are within that price point and save you even more if you went the 1018 1909 route.

Denon AVR-3808CI. Great receiver and can be had for ~$1000. I'd definitely rate it the best bang for your buck at $1000.

A used NAD T755 can be had for under 1k and is a badass receiver. If you wanna go around having HDMI then the T754 which is what I have is going for $499, best receiver I have had out of Onkyo and Denon.

Thanks guys. Is it safe to say that the Reon beats out what is on the Denon receivers?

faroudja dcdi isnt bad but reon is the next step up for all intents and purposes. I had a grand to spend on a reciever but ended up spending 400 on the pioneer 1018 becuase I was able to put more money into the rest of the system. GL

The Reon is the video processor used in most of the best Upscaling DVD players. I honestly cannot think of a better chip off hand that isn't some specialty processor in a 10k+ TV.
