Best Credit Card for exclusive discounts?

I know there have been alot of threads on the best Credit Card, but this is a bit different. I will be getting the first credit card in my name for college. I think the best is Citi Dividend Platinum for Student- 5% back on gas, supermarket, drugstores; 1% back on everything else. But seeing as how I won't have a car the first year, and I'm on a meal plan, the 5% back doesn't mean much. I won't spend much, but would like at least a $1500 line in case I need emergency airfare.

Anyway, I think I would get a better deal if the Card had retail discounts. Like I know i got 10% off when i bought my IBM thinkpad with a Visa. Or 5% off newegg or something. I think i would get more out of this then cashback. Any good programs like this, or should i stick with the Citi?

any other suggestions? I've heard people recommend AMEX Blue for Students but it offer no rewards and is accepted in less places (but not that many less)

The citi dividend is supposed to be pretty good, I think it's limited to $300 per year in savings?

Take a look at this. Stolen from RossMan

Thanks. I will probably get the Citi Dividend, UNLESS there is a good CC that has a really good deal on Airline Miles for any airlines. Although I don't fly alot, it will probably be one of the biggest expenses for this card, around $1000 a year I'm guessing.

Also, the non-student card lets you access the Citi Merchant Network, which lets you get 5% off Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, Buy.com, Compusa, Dell Home and more, and it doesn't count toward the $300 max. But, you need a minimum income that I don't have 🙁 Maybe i should try anyway. Yeah, there is a $300 cap, but that won't come into play with me. Or, just get another CC 🙂

The Borders card only gives 1% back in Borders certificates but there isn't any limit like the Citi card.

Chase perfect card mastercard. 3% back on gas and 1% back on everything else. CASH applied to your next statement. no waiting and then calling up for a check.

or Hess gas card 5% back fro buying hess gas and 1% back for everything else

I'm thinking about getting a subaru card. 3% back in the form of gift certificates for use to purchase a subauru or dealer services. theres a limit of something like $500 a year of rewards for this one.

I really hope you're joking.

Send me a dell 2405, and I'll send you a dell 2005 for FREE!

as long as you don't screw yourself over, rewards rock.

Exactly. Pay off the balance every month, and use it where it counts (for me, 5% on gas, supermarkets, and drugstores) and you can easily rack up good money in rewards.

Credit is generally bad for people who are irresponsible and frivilous, so it doesn't matter if there are rewards or not for them.

If you're going to get a frequent flier airline cc, those usually have an ANNUAL FEE of $40 - $85 per year.

I am not sure. I think you are looking for too much, at least 1% cashback is awesome. I have an amex gold reward, I use it to pay cellphone bill and usps = double points.
