 I went with my own bank. But once I had this card for a good 6 months or so, I switched over to cashback cards.

Go for AMEX TrueEarnings if you have Costco membership already and then combine that with a Citi Dividend Platinum Select. W00t

Don't go with the check card. That does nothing for you.

I have a Bank of America student card. Right now I have a $2500 limit. I don't really care about the APR because I always pay everything back within a month.

If you can possibly avoid it at all stay away from credit cards.

I was the only one of my group of friends that didn't have one in college and the only one who didn't graduate with at least $3000 in credit card debt.

If you get one be sure to be very careful with it. Ruining your credit rating in college can hurt you trying to get loans for cars or houses later in life.

that's same as not having credit history. I like to see the people who thought they were smart not having a cc in college and regret it later in life when they need to buy a car or a house with on credit history

Yep.

The biggest key is to treat it not like a credit card but like a check card. If you don't have the money for something, then don't buy it. If you do this, you'll be fine, and end up better off than not having a card.

Hmm, I certainly wouldn't get a credit card as a student. I have never had a credit card full stop, and I have an excellent credit rating.

Students don't neeed credit cards. I made that mistake. Wait till you have a full time job and can pay things off in full.

Get one with like a $300 limit. They're handy and keep you in check so you don't end up with tons of debt like the rest of us.

Providian has a nice card in that it updates your FICO score every month. The interest rates are not spectacular--but just being able to see your credit score going up/down is beneficial to someone that does not have a credit history.
