what is the best card to get without having my parents cosign?

i dont need a big limit just like 500 dollars or so...i currently have no job but will probably be getting one for the summer...and am in high school...dont know if that matters or not

and if i need my parents to cosign for it what is the best card to get?

If you have no job, how do you expect credit card issuers to approve you?

The whole point of a cc is to prove you can repay your debts.

Good luck 🙂

if you want more allowance after a year or so, ask your bank that gave you the debit card for a credit card - then do all the paperwork.

Whoops, i swear i hit the "Edit" button...

I think American Express would be good for an 18 year old. The fact that you have to pay off what you owe by the end of the month would keep you from spending too much.

Don't listen to the people saying don't. Starting a good credit history as early as possible is very important.

your not getting one without a job, because how can you prove you can pay off your debts? money in your savings?

if thats the case just use checks or a debit.

my sister got a credit card of her own a few weeks after she turned 18

it helps establish credit

but you gotta be disciplined about it

About the only one you are going to get without a co-signer and no long job history at a current job is a secured credit card. That is a card where you but say $500 (typically min. amount) in a savings account and they put a hold on the money so that if you don't pay the pill they will keep your money.

Get one of these and usem it every month, and pay it off when the statement comes, and then after 1 year you MIGHT be able to get a little bit better one unsecured, pending you get a job and hold ikt during this time.

I'm 18 and 6 months still with no credit card. I mean even the Sears store turned me down 🙁. Which totally sucks because I have a job and have more than enough in the bank that would be like 10x whatever tiny limit they would give me.

I turned 18 in March. C1 offered and I took. Not bad for a starter card, $300 limit for the first three months, $500 limit after that assuming I pay my bills on time.

Get a student card from Bank of America or Wells Fargo or something. You don't have to deal with yearly fees and it's a good way to build your credit.

Yeah easiest way.. go to college/university, then apply for a student card, you'll be given one 9 times out of 10.

I have a student one that I pay, have had it for a few months. I also have one that is linked to my parents that they pay that I have had for probably 6 years. One thing that I found funny, I have all my student loans through the bank that I applied for the student credit card, and they still needed me to send in all this stuff to prove I was a student, I was just kinda like "hello? What?".

You however, it sounds like you dont need one. Its good to start building gredit early, but your IN high school, and unemployed. Why do you want one? You want to be able to buy stuff online or something? You really dont need one, just have your parents help you for now. Wait till you are a college student. Everyone thinks they can trontrol your spending, bla bla bla, your what? 16? 17? Your just too young. No offence, but your young.

I have a Discover Classic student card. Signed up as a college freshman (Hey, I was accepted, technically I'm a freshman, right?)

a lot of companies will issue "student" cards to kids who are in college. hell, you practically can't walk on a college campus without someone trying to foist one on you.
