Heres the story I recently purchased a 2.8 p4 and 6 chips of 512mb ddr400 off ebay. I payed $175 for and was just planning on keeping the p4 and selling the ram. Well the guy screws up and it is actually a 3.4 SL793 northwood. I found out this thing goes for over $250 0n ebay. So I am thinking I might just sell the processor and go for something else. I don't really need all that power and am wondering what would be a good replacement for this. I have heard that amd is the best for gaming and consdering that is all I do with it, I figure I should give them a try. I would rather not switch ram right now so what are some good setups right about now. Thanks for the help.

How do you find and win a bid for a 2.8ghz P4 and 6 512mb pc3200 ddr sticks for 175??? Dam,n I need to hange oout there..You could make a living off of buying and then reselling things like that....part them out in separate bids and overcharge for shipping like most ebay auctions....

I would say try to find a A64 3000+/mobo combo.....

Ok so it's a little over 200 (newegg prices)

But I cant think of anything better for the price.

Chaintech VNF4/Ultra = $75
AMD Athlon64 3000+ venice = $146 (retail box)

While I am a big fan of intel as well. Id have to say this combo.

Epox 9NPA+ ($95 on newegg)
or
ASUS A8N-E (can be found on forums off someone for $80 shipped)

Amd 3200+ venice ($134 for oem on ewiz.com, but can be found for around same here on forums with fan/heatsink)

And yes I know this is over $200, but thats a pretty sweet bang/buck.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the help, because I know very little about AMD. I will check into all of these, but do you know howthe boards are at overclocking. I would only want a modest oc, but I want all the options to do so.

AGP or PCI-express vid card???

If you wont to OC then you may avoid my ULI chipset though I think it does fine but no real vcore options I believe....

The 3200 is the same price as the 3000 on this site.

Total right now...

72.95 free shipping on the mobo

132.35 for the proc.

how does the asrock OC...It sounded like from AT review is not much options...so moderate OC yes but serious enthusiast, NO!!!

My board and cpu should be in tomorrow.... I have heard good and bad... most people are currently waiting on bios updates. Problem is limited right now with the vcore not going up very high at all. Should be an update soon. If you dont want to wait, vcore modds are all over the place just look them up. I consider myself a serious enthusiast. I will be using a DD water cooling setup on this. I am going to aim for 2.7, right now I think I will only get around 2.4-2.5 b/c of the vcore settings. We will see, the main reason I got this board is because I have a AGP x800 xt pe, and I dont want to part with it.
