Best cpu for UT3?

I've looked at benchmarks, so far it seems a quad core will be better because it has more cache on it.

I've been thinking about getting the Q6600 G0 stepping.


Is there anything better for the money that is coming out now or before christmas?

Q6600 G0...any of the newer conroe chips (e6550, e6750, e6850). you cant go wrong with them.

if you wanted to wait for 45nm chips, you could buy a cheap cpu (celeron/pentium c2d based), then sell it and upgrade to the 45nm...

I'm not sure I know what you mean, when you say q6600 G0...

Do you mean that one would be good as well as the newer conroe chips?

Q6600 is the processor, the "G0" is the stepping. You had it in your original post. What I am doing is waiting until the mainstream Penryn-based quad-core processors are released in January/February. For $316, you can get the Q9450 which runs at 2.66Ghz per core with a 12MB L2 cache. Looking at preliminary overclock results, you could push one of these to 4.0Ghz no problem.

Right now, Q6600 or Xeon X3210/X3220.

UT3 does indeed take advantage of quads...with duals, usually CPU usage is completely maxed @ 100%
With quads, it's a more balanced load.

what board exactly would do 500 mhz fsb with "no problem"??

no overclocker looking for a good price/performance cpu would even consider any of intel's initial core 2 quad 45nm line up

The Abit IP35 series are supposed to go up to 500mhz

I think I've decided I will not go with SLI, is 500 mhz higher then any other board will go?

If so I think I will get the abit ip35.

How does the 500mhz compare with a fsb of 1333 mhz? Is it higher or is it the same?

500mhz on what hehe, I'm a newb at all the new specs of motherboards.

Not with quads, not even close.

Did not know that, thanks! Though I would have thought that getting a quad that will do 500mhz in the first place would be the problem, with air/water.

I myself is in this same situation. After I posted a poll in my thread, and careful consideration, I am finally going to make the jump to Intel and the Q6600.
