Hey guys, first post here! :). The computer will be for basic web browsing, dvd burning, word, etc. The only game that would be played is maybe CS:S, but for sure World of Warcraft. I was curious if you guys can help me find the best processor for under $100 after shipping on newegg.com, or another site if the price is better. Thanks in advance guys! :)

how bout this- AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ 2.8GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor - OEM. . . .only 80 bucks & will overclock over 3 GHz. . . .my AMD machines seem snappier for general use such as what you describe above (surfing the web, office work etc.)

Are you looking at the black edition? Also, what would be the best "bang for the buck" mobo? :) Thanks in advance! Also, do you mean snappier in terms of similar intel cpu's?

Prices drop ON CPU'S after the 20th of this month. Check out the E2160 pentium Duel Core, only 65 bucks, give or take. And it can clock up and over 3.0 with the right setup. As for Mobo, check out the gigabyte selection of P35's. Great boards!

What advantages would that have over the AMD that was posted? I don't really plan on overclocking, if that makes a difference. The AMD has a much faster speed right off the bat.

C2D's naturally have anywhere from 10-20% advatage clock / clock against ANY AMD.

Why else you think there going into the hell hole?

Also C2D's will overclock much nicer then AMD's.

So there isnt any competition against intel. Unless your going HTPC thats not ment for gaming. Which then AMD is crown king. Sorry the 780g is hard to beat for a HTPC board.

So is the set up that Drsignguy recommended good? Or is there a better set up for the same price?

Thanks :) Should I stick with DDR2 1066, or would DDR2 800 not see a huge drop in speed? Could you guys recommend a cheap case/psu combo as well? Sorry I know it's the wrong forum, but I thought it'd be better to stick with the thread :)

get whatever is cheaper is my honest opinion.

Chances are you'll never see that 1066mhz. I dont think so because it sounds like your not a enthusiest overclocker. :T

Umm what are you running currently? Sometimes maybe just a gpu upgrade will yield greater results.

I have a 5 year old HP that's running a P4 w/HT at the moment :). No, I don't I'd overclock, so I'm hoping the recommend intel processors are faster than the AMD ones right out of the box :). HOPING :p

If you aren't going to be overclocking, get the parts that IL2SturmovikPilot recommended. That processor is much faster out of the box than any of the E21x0's are, at least for gaming.

personally, no hard feelings myocardia but get the intel and even if you dont (you should) overclock it you can always in the future mount a E8x00 on it OR even a quad

okey i hate to do this to you, but you sound really confused now.

Can you goto this section:
http://forums.anandtech.com/ca...tid=27&flcache=4882671

Read the stickys about system recomendation and fill out that form and make a new post there.

The guys over there can help you out much better then in here in complete budget system packages. Make sure you define your wants and complete budget, and your location. So read the sticky.

If we keep fighting amd vs intel, your only going to get lost even more. :T
