I want to build a PC for a friend who records sounds and then mixes it using programs such as logic and pro-tools. Would and AMD single core (opteron), intel single core (3.6ghz),
AMD dual core (opteron 165), or intel dual core (3.0ghz) perform the best?
I am leaning more towards AMD or Intel single core but would like to know if dual core would make any difference or slow things down.

Thanks, Any advice is appreciated.

I don't think sound editing is too CPU intensive. I say go with the AMD Opteron and get a really high-end sound card, like an X-Fi fatality or something like that

1. Whether or not dual core would help depends on the program used.
2. Whether AMD or Intel is better depends on the program used.
3. There are sound cards much cheaper than the X-Fi that will do a better job.
