Best CPU for oc with ASUS A8R-MVP

I am going back and forth between the Athlon x2 3800/4200 and a Opteron 170.
1. Do you have to do some registry editing with the opterons or is it a simple install like it would be with the x2?
2. Can I get up to 2.8 on air with either?
3. Any issues or concerns with going with the optereon over the x2?

I have ocz plat rev2 ram.
