Compuwiz1 has some very good Infineon ram for sale for cheap ($119 for a 256MB stick). You can pick up a Celeron2 633 and have a good shot at 950mhz (9.5 x 100). That will set you back about $80-$90. That's what I had installed on my BX6r2. Worked great.

I have been swapping CPUs in and out of my BX6R2 for a couple of years and found it to be exeptionally gracefull in overclocking p3-700 FCPGA chips mounted on a slot adapter. I got several P3-700s to run reliably at 933 and 968 (I think it was 968 ... it was higher than 933 anyhow) ... This was done using generic PC133 ...

I think that the greater heat dissapation potential associated with FCPGA chips mounted on a slot adapter may have been a factor in the ability to overclock at higher speeds. The Slot1s that I tried never seemed to be able to get very far, but then I only tried 2-3 ...

Good luck.

I've had very bad luck with my Abit BXr2. Was very unstable with a slocket and an overclocked cpu. I ended up getting a new M/B for my Celeron 533 oc'd to 800 MHz. If you want to test your luck, then a Celeron 566 is the best bang for buck to overclock to 850 MHz.

For a safer choice (no overclocking) you can get a Slot 1 coppermine 800 MHz for ~$200. This is PC100 based, so will work with your current RAM, and you won't need a slocket.

First, why haven't you o/c the 300A? or did it not o/c well? Mine has been running fine at 504 since the day the bx6r2 hit the streets, well, stores anyway. I am planning to do as Dave suggested. I thought about another slot 1, but I want to be able to use my next cpu on my next board.

I have this MB with a P3-650 Slot1. Works nicely. I'd say go to a P3-800 and get some high quality ram. You can OC this baby real high from there with the right cooling. The price is right and may fall to under $200 very soon. You did not say what video card you have ? You could get this CPU then go for a NV20...that would make a nice system for along time at a resonable cost.

I considered a new MB/CPU as in an AMD 1.2ghz for around $400 but decided against it because the maturity of most of those products are not there yet. My upgrade plans presently get me thinking that I will probably skip the 1.xghz altogether and look for the next round of 2.xghz in about 6 to 9 months from now. I always like to 2x + what I have now at least. I consider that a real upgrade. My last one was a P200 to a P3-450, so that shows you where I'm coming from.

I went through 3 or 4. Most did 450, I ended up spending a few more dollars and getting a pretested CPU. Been a great combo at any speed though. until recently I had 2 different sticks of generic pc100 64 meg sticks of ram.
