I've had the worst luck with cordless phones. I've tried Sony, Panasonic, Vtec and they all seem to break soon after the warranty runs out. I now have a Uniden and so far it works fine, but it's had two issues that resolved themselves. I have a panasonic 900Mhz phone that has been working great for 4 years. All the expensive (2.4Ghz) ones I buy just crap out.
cheap sale ones. by the timeit breaks, just get another 10-15 dollars? thats cheaper then replacing the battery from my experience, expensive phones just don't really justify their price.
everything else sounds horrible (static /interference)... especially uniden/toshiba/GE... ive tried sony and others as well but u just cant beat a cordless panasonic
Make sure whatever you buy is DSS or at least digital. DSS phones tend to have the best range and security, but both types of digital phone will be relatively static-free and secure.
All the cheaper phones use analog transmission, so they're prone to static and eavesdropping.
I got a refurb Uniden 900 MHz DSS from Amazon for under $40 (IIRC), and it's great. Its handset is solidly built, and it's comfortable to use.
I recommend handling various handsets in the stores and eliminating any from contention that don't feel solidly built or comfortable on your ear.
We just started using the Panasonic 5.8GHz unit. Just need to plug the main base in the phone jack. I can add up to 7 handsets to it. No need for any other phone jacks either. No interferance with my wifi setup either
