best converter to divx

what is the best software to take avi and other file formats and convert the movies over to divx?

My guess would be the Divx converter. If you have a CPU with SSE4.1 instructions I remember it was quite a bit faster than the others.

Although those were Penryn previews and pretty old, the other converters have a good chance of using SSE4.1 by now.

DrDivx was pretty bad last I tried it. I actually paid for it, and could never use it messed up too much (sound going out of synch, etc..)

A good free program to use is Autogordian knot.

Another program that is quite powerful is Super. It does work really well, but the web site is pretty cheesy. I had no trouble with it myself, though. It is very powerful, and can encode to just about any format you want.
