Best controller for GTA 3?

Gravis Gamepad Pro

Perfect for someone that is also used to playing with a PS1 or PS2 controller... same layout.

 
Have you thought about using the KB + mouse?

Using a gamepad is worth it while driving, but I couldn't stand a gamepad when I had to get out of the vehicle and shoot someone. I switched to the KB and mouse and basically use the WASD configuration to move. It works great.

It didn't take long at all to get used to it, especially if you use the KB + mouse in other games.
 
PS2 gamepad works great for everything except when auto aim is not an option, then I'd switch to a mouse/keyboard.
