best contact lenses

tami

Lifer
this is inspired by a previous thread.

i used to be a crazy wearer of contacts for years, but last year, i just simply stopped due to the freezing wind and weather and began wearing glasses again.

when i started wearing contacts again, they didn't feel as comfortable. i always felt the presence of the lenses in my eyes. i think i need contact lenses with better hydration, or whatever, so that they feel like they're a part of my eye rather than something that goes on top of my pupil.

i previously used acuvue. don't get me wrong -- they're great contact lenses, but i think i need something that can handle my increasingly sensitive eyes.

what to try?

you are so helpful.

i wanted to hear about people's experiences. eye doctors, believe it or not, don't try on every pair of lenses to recommend the most ideal pair.

seriously, you should go to your eye doctor, because what works on one person won't work on another. i wear biomedics 55, for what it's worth. i like them - they're larger than acuvue, so they actually fit my huge eye.

That what I wear, I have the 2 weeks disposables and I go about a month between changes.

I wear lenses that compensate for my astigmatisim...they're called "toric" lenses. The brand I wear is Cibavision Focus. They're great. I tried Coopervision Toric lenses for a year, and they just didn't feel right.

I just got Focus Night & Day monthly soft hydrophilics. No complaints at all... I can even sleep with them in as I am often forced to do.

i've been hearing that the hydrophilics are the way to go. i think i may be eligible for a trial pair, but i have to figure out how to get my hands on those. (i'm kind of 1100 miles away from my regular eye doctor.)

i actually consulted with my eye doctor about this about 8 months ago, but she had little to say on the matter ("there are many options available, but why change your current lenses?"), so i kind of left it at that and stuck with the glasses.

however, being female and getting married means that i should have a decent pair of contact lenses to wear at my wedding or else i'll just look funny. 😱

thank you to all who have contributed positively to this thread. i truly appreciate all the feedback. 🙂

Wear these (formerly Coopervision Encore). Recommended by doctor when I inquired about comfortable lenses for prolonged staring at computer displays.

Generally run $13.95 a box (six lenses).

I had the same experience as the OP with contacts. I recently tried again and this time I got some contacts that just came out on the market. They are awesome! I can wear them all day without strong annoyance (okay, 12 hour shifts looking at screens is a bit much but otherwise). Go see your eye doctor.

If you have never worn contacts before your eyes may like a different set of lenses better.

I have really dry eyes. Started off a few years back with X brand and after a year of complaining my Dr. moved me to Acuvue 2's, still complained that after 6hrs my eyes were screaming.

I'm on Acuvue Advance now, and they are the best lenses I've ever worn. I can get a good 10-12hrs of wear in em. I am also using the Tubular holder to clean them. Makes the lenses feel like new the next day. Liquid cleaner is more expensive than the no rub but I only wear contact 1-2 days a week.

I've just started wearing lenses, and I have ones that you are able to wear constantly for a month.

I have had these ones in for 3 weeks so far, and they still feel just as good as they did when I first put them in (and on New Year's Eve one fell out and dropped on the floor, and I had no solution with me so I had to carry it back home, it was out of my eye for the best part of an hour in the fresh air!)

I decided to go for these rather than the standard lenses, as they were not that much more expensive, and I don't have the hassle of needing to put them in and take them out each day to clean them 🙂

I wear Focus Dailys (one day contact lenses) I switched from 2 week acuvue's a couple months ago. Daily disposibles are great - no more solution and cases!

These are comfortable and compared to the one-day acuvues, they tend not to dry out as much.

I'm tempted to try lenses again. I had them about 10 years ago, and had nothing but problems. My eyes were too sensitve for them, and they were always bothering me. My eyes dried out constanly, and felt irritated. A few years after that, my eye doctor suggested I try them again since they had "improved." He put a set in, and my eyes immediately went crazy. He took them out and said "wow, your eyes ARE sensitive. Still, I want to give them another try, maybe in the 7 or so years since I tried them last, they've improved quite a bit. Or hopefully my eyes have come less sensitive.

if my eye doctor would actually help me, i wouldn't be asking a bunch of tech nerds, would i? 😛

what contacts do you wear, cmv?

Tami,

I highly commend the Ciba Focus Night&Day 30 day disposables. I've been wearing them for over a year now, and they are great. They are so thin and light, you don't feel them in your eyes.

If you have any problem with conjuctivitis, have you doctor prescribe an optical antihistamine. I use Patanol daily, and it makes a huge difference.

Finally, try AMO Bink-n-Clean, which is the best "in eye" cleaner I've found for use with the 30 day lenses.

Just my two cents...

Metron

thanks again. maybe i can sample a bunch of different contacts to find the right pair.

again, i really appreciate all of your responses.

🙂

custom made gas permeable lenses. I wouldn't wear anything else. I've had them for 15 years now. A pair usually lasts 4 years or so.

i have the day/night contacts. i usually take them out at night anyway, but they are very comfortable.

one thing i would recommend, bausch and lamb just came out with this new cleanser w/moisturizer

my contacts have never felt so good before.
