I have a Soyo MB with on board raid. I do not want to use raid, but I would like to use the channels for hard drives and other IDE devices. Is there a best way to confirgure the 4 channels? I will be using 3 hard drives, a CDrom, a zip drive, a CD-R.

id prolly put you main HD on 1 slot then the remaining 2 on the other ATA100 slot, then i would put the cd-rom and the Zip on 1 port and the CD-R on its own port. goodluck!

If you have a Soyo raid board and want to use the other ide but not for raid, you will have to put anything that isn't a hard drive on the primary and secondary ide channels cause Raid is only meant for hard drives.

I would say the primary master Boot Hard drive
primary slave cdrom
secondary master cdr
secondary slave zip drive

For any other hard drives, just put them on the Raid ide controller and use them as non-raid hard drives.

I have a similar setup, minus one hard drive.

I have my CD-ROM on IDE0/Master, CD-RW on IDE0/Slave, Zip250 on IDE1/Master, 60GB Seagate Barracuda IV on ATA100 0/Master, and 20GB Western Digital 7200ROM on ATA100 0/Slave.

So it pretty much looks like this:

IDE0 - CD-ROM, CD-RW
IDE1 - Zip250
ATA100 - 60GB HDD, 20GB HDD
