I have Adobe Premier Pro and since I don't have a processor with the SSE instruction set it may be time to upgrade.

I know video editing is cpu intense and I think that a dual-processor path is probably the best bet.

If I don't go with a dually setup would I be better off with a 64 bit AMD system or a P4c with HT setup.

I think a top dual setup may be a little too much. I would like for my budget for Mobo/CPU/ram to be under $500. Cheaper the better but some of my dv to mpeg rendering times are astronomical. thanks.

Nothing can touch P4's for multimedia content creation. I use a pinnacle studio deluxe with my P4 2.8/533. It flies and never a dropped frame.
Can burn realtime to my DVD burner. AMD is better in gaming but only with the very high end cpu's, but cant touch p4's for content creation. IMHO.

A p4 setup would be faster than any of the amd cpus. A dual processor setup though with either a p4 or an athlon64 will run a ways over $500.

Pentium 4's are better than any AMD processor for multi-media creation and encoding. Anyone who tells you any different is a liar.
