Best Computer for $2,500

My best buddy wanted me to come up with the best rig I could think of for $2,500 but I have been behind the times recently and want to make sure he get's the best for this price.

He told me that he wants a Computer (without the Monitor) to cost about $2,500 and have the best hardware as long as it has importance to performance -- Meaning he doesn't care about cosmetics (Computer Case, neon lights, ect).

I won't be building this Computer for him instead I want a company like cyberpowerpc to build it for him. Cyberpowerpc doesn't have much freedom and I want to know of a site that has a grander variety of parts to be placed into the custom rig -- Something good enough for a $2,500 Computer.

He also told me that he wants this Computer to be able to play games like Vanguard and beyond smoothly without having to upgrade for a long while.

He doesn't care if the Computer has an AMD or Intel CPU as long as the performance is prominent. Please be as unbiased as possible.

Key Elements:

Performance
No need to upgrade for a long time.
Good cooling system.

If possible without weaking performance:
Quieter parts.

I was thinking that he should get the new Zeus 730watt PSU (for reliability) An Intel Extreme Edition CPU (1066 mhzFSB) with dual core + HT tech, 2GB of high quality/High Performance fast ram, The best Harddrive; possibly a Raptor X, a Motherboard that supports 1066 mhz FSB and SLI, Two Geforce 7900 GTX 512 MB with a great brand name, a great water cooling system for the CPU, Harddrive, GPUs, and ram (with fans as well), and the 64 Bit Version of Windows XP Pro (He asked me that if having 4 GB (1gb x4) was possible without it being much slow than just having 2GB (1 GB x2), and if it isn't should he get 4 GB now or just get hardware that will support the latest and the fastest ram out there? )

Thank you in advance.

If you have each specific part you want all spelled out like that, why don't you just build it yourself? It'd be cheaper, and you'd know exactly what was going into your computer.

Is there a reason for getting that intel EE? An AMD 3800+ or A64 3700+ and OC would be good for gaming.

2gb ram is fine for now. even 1gb is ok for gaming. I'd say save the money and go with 2x1gb, and add more ram later if needed.

I'm not sure what you mean by having fans with ram. Are you gonna blow a fan at the ram?

Tell him to wait another month and a half for Conroe. Will wipe the floor with AMD at the moment and won't be terribly expensive.

And I would post in CPU with this, not here.

This Computer will be for my friend not me; he cannot build the Computer, he doesn't know how. This is why I am asking for a list of items and a website that could build it for him....

My friend doesn't want to wait a month and a half, this is why I am asking for help now.

He doesn't want to overclock anything because he doesn't want to be bothered with any of that.

So if anyone can create a list for me (for him) and direct me to a site where those parts can be put together I'll appreciate it.

Thanks.

At a minimum, I'd go with an AMD X2 processor, 2GB of RAM, and I would definitely ditch the water cooling. You mentioned your friend would not be overclocking so water cooling is a complete waste of money. If you really want to future-proof this some, you may want to consider those new physics processors also.

As an above poster said, the Conroe is coming out, but those processors will obviously be insanely expensive for a while and will tear into the budget.

Personally, I only purchase from NewEgg and ZipZoomFly.

I took the time and made a shopping list for you at newegg. <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wi...mber=3236025&WishListTitle=defzeppelin"><a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=3236025&WishListTitle=defzeppelin">https://secure.newegg.com/NewVers.........6025&WishListTitle=defzeppelin</a></a>
It has everything you need, save for the operating system.
I really think you should just buy the parts and build it yourself. It is very easy to do and there are plenty of tutorials to look at, as well as the nice people in General Hardware who will be glad to help you along the way.
This same system priced at $2,316.90 from newegg would likely cost around $3,000 to have someone else build it for you.

Also, it will be pretty quiet and cool. The case is a quiet one with good airflow, and the Thermaltake Big Typhoon along with the Arctic Silver 5 will keep the CPU nice and cool without making barely any noise.
The Raptor may be a bit noisy so I included the Scythe "Quiet Drive" Internal HDD Silencer to take care of that.

Nice suggestions.

Oops I forgot to switch that out. I was building a socket 939 system at first.

Fixed.
