best component dvd player to buy?

What's the best home component dvd player to buy now with progressive scan, and without progressive scan?
I am looking to purchase one to hook up to a receiver. Brand and model? Features? Cost? I don't care if it's 1 disc or multi disc.

How much are you willing to spend, and what TV will it be used it?

The best bang for the buck (depending on your needs) is the progressive scan DVD-A, DVD-RAM, MP3 capable Panasonic RP91 for under $450 US.

Check out www.audioreview.com . They have a great forum for this kind of question and also have a really good section of their site where people rate audiovisual equipment. That site taught me all I needed to know when I bought my system.

I second the RP91, i was gonna say it earlier, but something died on my system. 🙂

You can check out audioreview or ask around on hometheaterforum.com, avsforums.com, hometheaterspot.com, the Panny is highly regarded as the best progressive scan DVD out there, it's in limited quantity too.......in fact, hometheaterspot.com has a group buy thread including the 91's right now, you have to email the original post-er.

As for if it has any benefits, it won't really make a difference unless you have a TV capable of handling the resolution, but certain "normal" TVs have modes that might be able to help you out.

I'm certainly not the one to ask, however, so good luck with your search. ^_^

No point in having a progressive scan DVD player if your tv cant handle it....apex ad5131, 3 cd changer, can play every damn thing i throw at it, svcds, xsvcds, mp3s, even JPG slideshows....$100 at circuit city, it has component video output
edit: it plays dvds too...

That's cool, wish I had a circuit city or anything like that close to where I live. I am sure that when I finish off my audio system, my computer upgrade, and pay off some bills I'll get a good quality tv. Not sure which one to get yet though. I would like something in a projection tv above 43" but not too large cause I have a small 14' x 14' room.
