New or used, as long as it's a fairly recent model and pretty compact. Something like the Canon A400, but CF instead of SD. (I'm aware the A300 fits the bill, but I'm looking to expand my brand horizons as well.)

thanks!

A new canon a95 is around $250 shipped these days, so I am guessing you could get a used one for around 200. Or the a85.

I know a perfect SD camera.

I'm curious, what is it?

There are some GREAT Hot Deals on SD media.

I think the Canon SD200 would be perfect for him.

$206 + 12 shipping = $218 shipped

3.2MP, 3x Optical Zoom, fantastic videos, 2" LCD, and as compact as you can get. I have the SD300 and it has been great.

I vote for the Canon. I have the older model A40 and I like it.

I have an S200. Pretty sure there's a 3MP version of it. Uses CF and takes great shots (when there's enough light anyway).

Why CF? My old camera had CF and I like it a lot but why limit yourself?

because I've got gigs of CF media, and I like it. I want my media to be the same across the board.
