Best coax tools and F connectors?

Bob.

I've run coax cable for TV over the years (for myself) with a Radio Shack or Lowes F connectors, basic plastic stripper and a Taiwan made crimper (hex). Of course, this makes for fairly sloppy crimps with some of the wire braid sticking out. I'm not sure how this effects quality.

Any recommendations for tools and materials geared toward a quality install and signal? I'm not looking to break the bank if I don't have to. Or are the tools and materials I use now considered OK? I haven't really had any issues, but sometimes, one doesn't know what one is missing. 😉

Thanks,
Bob.

Thanks, sdifox...exactly what I was looking for, but not sure what question to ask! I have 4 quad coax cable now...is it worth moving to 6 quad (and if so, should I replace the line coming in from outside as well? No sheetrock ATM, so it shouldn't be too difficult)? Some cable runs will be located in short conduits along with CAT5e and possibly some other types of cabling (audio, etc.).

My mistake. Existing lines are RG-6, so my question is uninformed and moot. Thanks again for your help. 🙂

external connections are the ones you want to move to compression if you want to do anything about it. crimps are susceptible to water penetration.

just make sure to keep some distance from power cables.
