Lookin for cheapest motherboard for AMD Sempron 64 3200+ AM2 that will come with integrated video, for non-gaming pc.

I heard nForce 3-4 has some serious bugs in gigabit network chipset, hardware firewall and sata ports, so i dont want it.

biosar doesnt suck as they are one of the leading brands in AM2. And you cant tell anything by how it looks other than, well, how it looks. If youy want low priced go ith the AMD 6xx chipsets such as the 690 or the like. or if you want to go with nvidia chipsets go with the 550 or 570 for low prices.

NForce 3 had some issues with the SATA where ports 0-1 weren't locked to a fixed freq, so they would go out of spec when you OC'ed the FSB. The Nforce4 fixed that problem.

There's nothing wrong with the NF4 GigE, in fact it has pretty low CPU utilization. Don't install the firewall driver though, as that has never worked satisfactorily.

Overall, the NF4 chipset is just fine, really.

If all you really need is an internet PC any integrated chipset should do.

With your intended use I would look at AMD, SiS or VIA chipsets first merely because of power consumption and heat. SiS and VIA tend to be used strictly on cheaper boards with less features, and have more outdated video capabilities. AMD and Nvidia seem to be comparable on features and video capabilities.

Personnaly I would put the features, quality and/or price of the board first, not what chipset it uses, although I personnaly would lean more twards either AMD or SiS for your needs.

I don't think nForce 3 is available for AM2. The nForce bugs you speak of are only if you install the NAM, firewall, and nvidia storage drivers: so don't install them and you'll be fine. The SATA can be used non-raid with no additional drivers. I don't use raid, so someone else can comment on that.

The nvidia and ATI onboard video is better for general use as well as limited 3D uses. Thier chipsets include 6100, 6150, 7025, 7050, xpress 200, xpress1150, and G690. There are a lot of choices in the $60 USD to $80 USD range however that converts to your local money and availability.

Wow, nf3 for an AM2 socket. I remember some discussion about the errors you speak of on the nf3 chipset, but never checked into it since they were rapidly replaced by the nf4 series that worked well on MS drivers.

The cheapest chipsets I've seen lately for AM2 is VIA and NV6100 at around $50 USD. I currently use a NV 6150 board and it has been fine. To find a better cheap one I would use Newegg user reviews to guide me towards a reliable choice, and buy it locally.

Here in the US there are a lot of mobos in the $65 USD to $80 USD range with newer and popular nForce 7025 and ATI/ AMD 690g chipsets, so I have a NV 7050 on the way for a relative.
