I've got this persistent clog in my kitchen and don't want to spend $100 for the snake guy to clear it out again.

Anyone have any suggestions? I've used practically everything except lye. Has anyone ever used it? Is it very effective?

Drano Max has been the best for me. I think it's the one that come in a red bottle. I had a drain that would not unclogg even after I snaked it. I bought a bottle of that and it was working fine with in the hour. Of course I used the entire bottle but wtf I hated having a clogged drain in the can.

Why waste money on Drano? Just try liquid bleach. Trust me, it'll get the job done at least as well as Drano. If the bleach don't work, time to open up them pipes.

good god, i just got done doing this. I must have tried every product available. Mine was a kitchen sink also.

First wave of attack: Use Drano max. Dont use the generic brand, dont use competing brands. Drano max is seriously the sh*t. If the water isnt going down AT ALL, use the whole bottle. If its just slow, use 1/2 of it.

Second Wave of attack: Liquid plumer crystal foaming pipe cleaner. You pour about a tablespoon of these cyrstals in with cup of water, and this stuff goes to town.

Use em in combination and it works like a charm. I had to repeat the application twice, but it was worth it.

Hmm. I've tried all that stuff back to back before I had to resort to the Roto Rooter man. I dumped a whole thing of Dranomax and then used the crystal stuff but it still didn't work.

Nobody has used lye? I'm just afraid of using it because supposedly, if you use cold water, it'll explode and it is also very corrosive.

Drano Max (from Walmart - they sell big containers which are cheap) seems to work the best.

Although it's costly your best bet is to call a plumber. They have these really long snakes, industrial strength stuff and very high powered hoses which usually unclog the pipe and the crud on the insides along the wall of the pipe. Just make sure to call the plumber during normal weekday business hours (not at 3AM on Saturday). The less they do in your house the less the charge is.
