Can someone tell me what is the best way to transfer big files between my PC and my laptop?

Can I do this from a USB cable?

Thanks in advance.

Crossover cable hooked to both computers NICs. USB1 would take forever.

edit: I think you also need some sort of USB networking kit if you go this route.

If you have a notebook drive adapter, connect it to a standard desktop ide in your pc and then you're all set.

Thanks for all your replies! Just wondering, what is a crossover cable? Do I just get one of these, connect the computers and I'm set?

Crossover is a type of ethernet cable. It's designed to be used between two computers without the need for a hub. Patch cable is the other type which requires a hub, if I remember correctly.

Crossover cable = between similar devices, like nic cards in computers.

Straight-through cable = between dissimilar devices like a NIC and a HUB or a NIC and a Router.

Crossover is your best bet (sorry John!) No additional hardware required, no fussing with proprietary settings, and no opening the laptop. Set two static IPs, access an administrative share, and z00m. :p

(This is assuming you have 100MBit NICs in both machines. God forbid you're on 10MBit.)

To some extent I agree, but only if you do not have a 2.5" HDD adapter and the ability to pull the HDD out of the notebook. Transferring gig's of data over a 10/100 connection can be a slow process.
