I don't care how its done. I have my cable box and I want to be able to record HDTV content from pretty much all of the channels. Cheapest would be nice. i have a comcast scientific atlanta 4250HDC cable box.

The Haupage HD PVR looks to be the one way to do it, is this true? kind of expensive. just wondering if thats the only way to do it.

(edit): trying to put together an HTPC

Obviously you'll need a video capture card and the signal coming from your cable box will have to analog. I've never used a haupage, but they're always recommended when this topic comes up.

Firewire, look it up.

Except it won't record encrypted content, AKA premium channels.
