also, can I buy in someone else's name and let them pick the tickets up, or do they have to be for me?
budget carrier websites?Originally posted by: vegetation
Best to get a general view of rates by using expedia or travelocity. Then, weed out the high price carriers and go straight to the web sites of the respectively lower priced carriers, it's often a bit cheaper if you just book there. Also, don't forget budget carrier web sites, as they often aren't listed on expedia or other travel search engines. Remember that prices change frequently, so if you see something really low don't wait too long to purchase.

anyone have an answer to my second question?
Pick up phone. Call Expedia.com at (800) 397-3342 or Delta at 800-221-1212 or whatever aitline or service you want to use. Ask.

if all else fails, try everything 😀Originally posted by: werk
It varies by day and requires work if you want the absolute cheapest.
Here's what I do:
Go to jetblue, frontier and song's websites. Check their prices.
Go to Expedia, Orbitz, Cheaptickets, Travelocity, and Priceline. Find cheapest fares.
Go to the airlines' with lowest fares websites.
Compare all prices, pick based on lowest/best times/nonstop.
e-tickets are the ones you pick up at the airport, correct? last time I went with someone who did that they asked to see her credit card when she picked the tickets up. is this not a common practice?Originally posted by: TwinkleToes77

The kiosks require you to swipe a CC in the passenger's name (not the card that the tickets were purchased with).Originally posted by: vegetation

E-tickets require one to only show id to check-in, or many airlines now have online check in where the boarding pass is to be printed on your home printer, or kiosk terminals in the airport check-in area can do the same. As for showing the actual credit card, only United did this time to time in the past but they officially stopped the practice a year or two ago.

but you're not required to use the kiosks, right? the person I'm buying for doesn't have a credit card.Originally posted by: vegetation

Or you can manually peck in the frequent flyer club number. The swipe just reads the name for faster service.
