preferably in Melbourne...because i would like to avoid buying online if possible.

looking for a place that stocks the most decent brand stuff, at reasonable prices. in my town (2 hours from Melb.) there is not much variety and everything is very expensive compared to the capital cities.

I can highly reccomend C W Supplies P/L. They are my primary supplier of computer parts, and I've been dealing with them for 4 years now with no complaints. If you are not comfortable with online ordering, you can simply ring them and phone through an order.

another good supplier is Aus PC Market.

In case you didn't already know, there is a good (and quite humorous) review site run by Daniel Rutter, who has a long history of writing for magazines. the site is Dan's Data.

The Melbourne swap meets easily have the cheapest prices, but many items can be had for a lot less through US Pricewatch vendors. Trouble is, most don't do international orders. Anyone know which ones do?

The cheapest place that I have found in Melbourne is M.S.Y Technology - they are located at 121 Waverley Road EAST MALVERN 3145 (Melway 68 G1). I have bought alot of things there. They seem to have quite a large amount of stock for such a small company. They have a ad in the Victorian Computer Trader.

Cheers.

I am always amazed how much the prices differ!!! It is good having a great computer store 5 mins away! 🙂

Just bought another 128 MB NCP PC133 ram for another system I have a couple of days ago.........only $50!! I'm happy!! 🙂

hey all 🙂

I too am an Australian, and was wondering if anybody knew of several reputable and cheap online retailers. I currently have $1600 worth of gear coming through Computer Market, but they are rather late pricey with shipping expenses. AusPC have given me nothing but good experiences, but are a tad on the expensive side. I was looking for another retailer to place my order through ($2600 worth of components) and found a few, albeit dodgey dealers...

Any help would be much appreciated 🙂

i noticed while looking through different websites and ads in the green guide that most australian retailers stock either no name memory, or hyundai memory. is the hyundai ram any good? (eg, worth the extra over the no name?) because after all hyundai cars aren't too hot 😛

Hi guys/girls

The cheapest place in Australia that i have found has to be www.umart.com.au, but they are only in Sydney and Brisbane, but if you do buy from Umart i suggest going and picking up the goods in person, as the place seems a little 'dodgy'

You also cant go wrong with www.auspcmarket.com.au huge range and excellent service, although a little on the expensive side. Two other stores that deserve a mention for cooling/case modding gear are www.below-0.com and www.coolpc.com.au, both of these cooling stores have great prices and service.

I know of many more Australian online stores, if you would like the full list just post here 🙂

Sorry i couldnt be more helpful to the original poster, as i live in Sydney

Gorgonzola,
I have built many, many systems over the years, none of them have had name brand memory in them, I've only every had one DIMM fail, and that was a very old module with no spd module.

I have no idea how non branded memory performs when overclocking BTW, since I don't overclock at all.

Buy your memory from a company with a good reputation. If they value that reputation at all, they will not sell you rubbish.

Desop,
Take a look at C W Supplies. They are cheap and reputable. Out of all the companies listed here I use them the most, simply because they supply parts that work, they offer good service and they don't muck you around.

ok thanks Gstanfor

holdencommodore, thanks for the ScorpTec URL, they have just about every item i was after, and also quite a bit cheaper than some places i had already checked.

does M.S.Y Tech have a website with price listings? because if they have the parts im after i'd be interested in seeing if it is cheaper than ScorpTec.

I have just checked the Computer Trader....It looks like they (M.S.Y) do not have a web site......they do though, have an e-mail address which is listed at the top of the ad... here it is.
msy@net2000.com.au

They also have a phone number.... (03) 9572-4411 or (03) 95725186

I have found both NCP and Hyundai memory to be great for the price...

BTW: What parts are you after? I can tell you the price from the Computer Trader if you want.

Cheers.

Ok, here we go..........

Iwill KK266 Socket-A KT133A ATX....... They don't have the Iwill listed but they may have it.....

AMD Thunderbird 1.2Ghz - C (266Mhz Bus).... $350

256MB 133Mhz SDRAM.......$100 (NCP)
30Gb Western Digital (7200rpm, ATA100, 2MB) WD300BB......$230

Creative Sound Blaster Live! Value..........$90

Pioneer DVD-106S 16x 40x cdrom Slot Load.......$137 (not sure if it is slot)
1.44mb Panasonic FDD...... $20 (does not say brand)

Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Optical USB......$50 (retail version)

Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro USB....They don't list this one...

Mitsubishi 17" Diamond View DV17NF Natural Flat Screen, 0.25dpi....or this

I am only going from what they have in the Victorian Computer Trader ad. They may have the rest of these items in stock though.

Oh, and there is another place that is quite cheap too....IT Supermarket... The have a "Best Price Guarantee"

Really, you need to pick up a copy of the Victorian Computer Trader (it is a newspaper- don't pay $2.40 at the newsagent.....most computer stores have the 'free' edition)

Cheers.
