Im about to get married and switch auto insurance into my name. What is the cheapest place to check? Already did Geico and it looks half decent.

Thanks

USAA no question....

Though you have to be directly connected a person in (or was in) the military to get it.

Geico, Progressive, American Express are all pretty good.

Electric Insurance (General Electriccompany, available to public in many states) was the cheapest for me AND had the best coverage options.

But, you need to call around and get the quotes from each to really find out.

What do you mean by directly connected? Father? Grandfather? Or do they have to be your spouse/son/daughter

If you have a membership to Sams or Costco, try there too... or if you belong to a credit union, they might have special discounts as well

Cost is only half the equation.

The other half is how well the company will handle a claim. Be sure to research that as well.

My family has been with the same insurance agent for 15 years. I wouldn't dream of changing companies. Yes, I'm probably paying more than I would elsewhere, but my agent has ALWAYS been there for us when my family has had to file a claim.

I'm more than happy to pay more in insurance premiums for that kind of service.

esurance.
It's cheap. I pay 570 for 6 months for my 1996 Maxima. And I am only 23, with an accident.
But I only had one accident which was my fault, with no damage to my car, just the guy I hit. They handled it fine, and very quick, same day. After the accident my rate went up only 10 bucks a month.
I suppose some other companies are better, but the quotes I was getting from them were insane. 1000+ for 6 months. Get real.
Also, I max out the deductible. I can stomach 2K in damages, and insurance isn't for the small stuff, it's for the big stuff. So put higher deductible, and use the savings for higher damage limits.
A few hundred bucks you spend on deductible won't ruin you financially, but a few hundred thousand in damages if you are underinsured surely will.

You should still shop around. When bad times roll in they won't/don't care that you've been with them for 15yrs. Even if they were your best friend at other times. Been There, done that. I wouldn't drop a good carrier to save $100, but, that's about the limit.

I have geico ... its about 3/4 the price of Allstate

I filed my first claim this morning (Hail damage) and so far they have been very easy to deal with ...

I need to pick a body shop, and then on thursday go to their damage appraisor, and then drop it off at the body shop to get it fixed, I'll find out after that how good they really are.

Father/Mother or Spouse. My mother was a LTC in the Army before she retired. I was on their car insurance before she retired, therefore I can keep it for the rest of my life. Pretty damn sweet. It's around 20-30% cheaper than anybody else I've checked. I pay around $900 every 6 months for FULL coverage, zero deductible comprehensive, all $$ limits maxed out. I'm only 22....

You have to shop around. The rates depend on the company, and your situation. For me, Geico was the cheapest, followed by Allstate. Progressive was much higher than both.

Insurance is insanely expensive. I'd love to see the cost breakdown the companies, b/c I'm sure I'm getting screwed by the companies. Are we just paying so much b/c of the other bad drivers out there?
