Well, I wanna finally get my taxes done. Got my W2 and everything.

What's the best one-solution for both state & federal tax? I hear TaxCut is cheap for both around $35~

Any input? TaxAct, TurboTax, so many out there..

What is your filing status? If you file a 1040EZ you can just do it online for a nominal fee. It's painfully easy.

Mine I have to file a schedule A, C...etc so I use Turbo Tax.

Dude, if you just have W2s and nothing else crazy, I just did TurboTax online for FREE. I also got my return back in 7 days. :)

the tax prep industry has done a very good job of convincing people that taxes are hard to do.

I think they are all about the same. One of them comes on a 1GB flash drive. So hey, free flash drive.

Yes we have. :p

Depends on the stuff you have to file. Lots of itemized deductions or credits are easier using software.

I got taxcut with federal and state efile for $20, so I went with that. Worked fine for me.

I've been doing TaxACT.com for free. It'll do the federal taxes for you with their software and e-file them all for free. At the end, it'll even print your state taxes. But then, it asks for a wad of cash to actually file those state tax forms. Well, with the state one already done, you can either
1) download the forms from your state, fill it out yourself and mail it in (just copy the numbers that TaxACT printed)
2) Or, if your state lets you e-file, it is also free (just copy the numbers that TaxACT printed).

The only problem is there are some annoying TaxACT ads asking you to pay for the state taxes. Skip past those and you are done. All for free.

I did TaxACT this year for $20 fed and state both efiled, I got my federal money in a week and a half in my account.

If you do the EZ form, the federal is free.

State Farm customers can log into statefarm.com, click the link to turbotax and file both fed and state for FREE.

That's what I used last year and this year.

I just finished using TaxAct.com for both federal + state + efile + direct deposit for $13.95.

Why on earth others spend $40 on other products??? Am I missing something?

Features, convenience and after you itemize the cost of the software, it's not a big deal.

If you are eligible, you can go through IRS's Free File website to file your federal tax return for free.

For a list of state free file programs, check out State Free File.

If you have State Farm insurance, TurboTax is free.

Just sign into your online account and on the left hand side there's the link for free TurboTax.
