Ok, I am giving up Hotmail because even with a brand new account I get flooded with junk mail. I was about to jump to yahoo, but that doesn't have pop3 any more. I am willing to pay up to abou $15 a year for an email account now, so where should I go? Basically, just like most people, I want:

- Pop3 access (or at least I can use outlook express to access it)
- Trusted company (not "thisismynewemailaddress.com" or anything)
- A good ammount of space (10 megs or so)
- and Finally, one that recieves VERY LITTLE spam.

I won't be giving this address to anyone except friends, so I wouldn't be inviting spam. Thanks for anyone's help. God I hate spam.

I didn't know lycos offered a pop account for free. Well, with yahoo, you can use yahoopops (a freeware) to download your emails using outlook express (or any other email application). Just make sure your yahoo web page is using the classic logon, not the beta interface.

For personal use I use @onebox.com found at www.onebox.com

5 months ago I paid 24.95 for a years worth of service and have yet to recieve unsolicited junk mail. They also offer services such as voice email, voice mail and fax all though an 800 number. I don't know about pop3 boxes though, I've been using the web inferface which is quick loading and add-free, and has yet to go offline or crash my browser.
The most usefull feature would have to be ICQ notification of incoming mesages.

However for free email I'd recommend Yahoo over Hotmail. It's been a while since I've had a hotmail account and since Yahoo recently changed the setup of their email service its become more intuitive to use. I use the Yahoo mail address whenever I'm unsure whether I'll recieve spam (like from IoMega) and if I do the spamblock service comes in helpful.

The free Lycos does not have POP (last I saw) and I do have a free lycos mail account and very rarely get spam or junk email.

Well, I am so far happy with Yahoo and Yahoo-Pops, I would still like to get a paying account. ONEBOX is actually $120 dollars a year now, and that is a little much. It sounded good though. Anyone use something similar but cheaper? Thanks for the help already guys (and gals).

Check out www.myrealbox.com. It's free, with pop access. There is some scheduled downtime, but it's only been down once in the 6 months I've been using it, and that was only like 4 hours.

I've been using a free Hushmail account for awhile.
As i use it to sign up with Yahoo? Groups & the like i have recieved a few spam emails, but not too many. I opened another account there about a month ago, so far no spam, but i'm more careful with this account.
They do have a premium account for a fee, not sure what it is though.
32mb of storage, no adds.
Maybe with the premium account you can access it with OE, i'm not sure.

www.hushmail.com

Good luck!

I use www.myrealbox.com as well and its a very good service.

Its a free e-mail provider hosted by Novell. They use it to test out some of their technologies. As such, there will be scheduled downtime. Usually over a weekend. And if you view the mainpage, they usually announce the downtime there. They also tend to announce it over e-mail if its a big one (one recently required upgrading the hardware so the service was down the weekend).

Pros: Interface includes web AND pop3. I think they have a 10 meg limit. Its free. They have built-in virus scanners, where they block the offending e-mail and inform you and the sender of it. I've had the service for about 18 months now, and I have not received one peice of spam. Granted, I only tell personal friends about that address so that helps.

Cons: The downtime. If you need a 99.999% uptime service, look elsewhere. The web interface is not the most sophistacted in the world, but it does its job.

Hushmail has big problems. I had quite a bit of emails built up and it was so slow on my (fast) system, I couldnt even delete them. I forget which browser I was using, but when I tried the other browser, I couldnt even login. Tried at home and at work (also fast PC & connection)
