So I'm currently looking to buy a CHEAP ($1000 or less) laptop, this'll be used only for web surfing, etc. NO gaming, except for internet poker I guess lol.

So it seems I'm basically limited to Celeron CPUs on the Intel side, but which one should I go with? Celeron-M or D? Also which would be good on the AMD side? Thanks in advance! :D

Are you planning to use the laptop primarily as a desktop replacement (ie. normally plugged into a wall outlet) or on battery? There are a number of Pentium4 laptops that are built around desktop chips that are in your price range. They're not the best choice if long battery runtime is a requirement but as a desktop replacement, that's not really an issue. Quickly browsing through gotapex.com, I see an HP P4-M (1.4ghz) laptop deal for $899 and a HP P4 (2.8ghz) 17" laptop for $1099. I'm sure there are lots of others if you look.

Sounds like you're not going to be asking much of your laptop. How about a refurbished Thinkpad from IBM? You might be able to score a good deal on a refurb T20 series which would still be more than adequate for what you're going to use it for.

Ohhhhhhhhh no no no lol, this'll be used VERY lightly for when I'm on the road. As I said, it'll only be used for websurfing and all the other non intense stuff heheh.

EDIT:

Where would I find good deals on reliable refurbished laptops? Thanks. :D

I would say check the forums if you want a ref. Dell sells them and you can get an 8600 15.4 centrino Pentium M for like 750. I would say grab a dell and put the warranty on it because if your going to use it for travelling you will have a great laptop and you will have the protection for any accidents. Let me find you one but I would say Dell would be a good bet, it would be a great laptop or even a 600m. Just something with a dedicated video card, even though you are doing minor stuff you will have more value with a Dedicated video card and you will have a much snapper computer for upcoming OS's.

As for the celeron, I would not wish those on anyone, please stay away from celerons, esp celeron d. I have heard the celeron m is a hugh improvement but when you can get a Pentium M (which is a much better processor, I think its intels best processor right now) You should not look at celerons.

I will post again with a few links to some good ref. laptops as I am selling laptops constantly so i know where to find a few. ^-^

Yeah I don't really want a Celeron, but given my budget I'm not sure if there's too much out there lol...also I'm seeing these 2 laptops at CompUSA and BestBuy for $699 and $749, the former is a Celeron D 1.3GHz and the latter is a Celeron M 1.4Ghz.

Hey thanks so much Cross, now when you say "forums" and to find deals in these "forums", do you mean Dell forums and that there are people selling laptops there? I'm a bit confused lol. Also that link you gave, if I click on it it sends me to a page where the cheapest one I see is a Latitude 100L for $809, and if I copy&paste the whole thing it gives me an error ahahah...but I don't see a good deal for a D505...
