I've got a cabin that I'm about to renovate in the next 12 months. I've got to do windows, siding, HVAC, interior walls, doors, bathroom, etc.....and kitchen, so I'm trying to source materials and keep costs down.

There are kitchen cabinets in place, but they're older and I want to change up the design to improve storage and functionality. I basically just need 4 base cabinets to cover 10' of wall, maybe a pantry and a few wall cabinets. Lowe's has quite a few "in stock" options that are cheaper. I've used these for smaller jobs I've done in the past, but the quality has always been pretty low. They tend to use MDF covered laminate. The materials are not as much of an issue as the joins. I've been more and more disappointed with the glue and staple joints over the years and low quality slides and tracks on the drawers. It's like the quality hasn't improved any and only gotten worse. Does anyone have any advice for a brand or brands that may be cheaper priced options that still have some quality? It's a cabin, so I'd like to stick with some kind of wood finish or maybe a gray color if going with a painted cabinet.

I have time to order them and have a few companies I can order from. I'm just looking for brand suggestions to research that aren't going to be as pricey as Kraftmaid or something.

There are a couple of places around here that sell a "house brand" cabinet that's pretty cheap. The parts come from China and are assembled by the seller. They appear to be acceptable low end boxes. God only knows what the finish on them is. I'd guess an asbestos/lead combo catalyzed with radioactive waste.
The places I've seen them also sell cheap granite counter tops.

Perhaps there is a similar reseller in your area.

I've got a few big box stores, but I'm afraid the local competition is limited by our market area. Population density here is great for living, but it make for more costly materials due to the limited competition.

I bought some of the Lowe's base cabinets for my laundry room a few years back, but they dropped the brand before I finished the project and needed the upper cabinets. I ended up having to call the manufacturer and go through another company to order a matching product with a different name. I'm tempted just to go through that company and order those, but they were about 25-30% more expensive than through Lowe's due to the other reseller's markup.

I have no idea what quality Ikea boxes are, and they are surely pressed and glued and not solid, but perhaps something to look at.

Try Craigslist...in the Seattle market, there are tons of cabinets, new and used, in all sorts of prices and quality. Might find what you want...or not. Worth a look.
