can someone recommend me a good home gym.

i am a beginner - and not looking at spending too much. and i don't think i'll need > 150lb resistance etc.

i was looking at this:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00614622000P

but i am not sure if i can do pull ups etc on that.

they have the bowflex on sale but thats way beyond my budget.

any suggestions would be welcome. TIA.

Get the one Chuck Norris sells, the total gym I think. If Chuck endorses it, it must be awesome.

For working the major muscle groups, there is no exercise you can't do w/ an adjustable bench and a decent set of free weights.

No need for a machine...adjustable bench, dumbbells, maybe barbell and barbell rack, as well as pull-up bar mounted somewhere. Also get a book that explains how your body works and how to do exercises correctly (I read "Starting Strength" by Mark Rippetoe for barbell exercises)

This is what I use:

slightly modified:

Ask relatives for free weights and other equipment, it's likely that someone bought them and stopped working out. Or Craigslist. Try to get a set of non-adjustable dumbbells.
And don't think "I wont need over 150 lb resistance". You will have so-called newbie gains - when after some weeks you quickly add weight to the bar until you reach your real limit, and work slowly from there.

also check out http://www.wannabebigforums.com/
they have lots of good info

ok, after lot of reading decided on the "Weider Total Body Works 5000". it has got excellent reviews all over the web. also the cheapest available.

found that no local store carries it - so will have to order it online. may come to about $125-ish shipped. can be reduced to $105-ish if coupons are used.

i am updating this thread for everybodys benefit.

if anyone already owns this one please provide feedback in this thread.

thanks to everyone that provided comments on this thread.

thanks.
