My Verizon contract just expired and three of our four phones are in lousy shape. Looking for an info source to make the best informed decision without requiring enough time to be a second job. My wife and I are looking for good sound quality phones, probably never text, pictures purely optional, mp3 capability would be nice, small physical size as possible. For the two kids basically the same thing with texting (if they want a data phone then they can pay for it). We currently have a 1400 minute plan and have never gone over that in four+ years. Would like something with rollover minutes if coverage as good in CT/MA as Verizon (thinking of dropping home landline).

If I switch from Verizon will I have activation charges, etc.? May be an incentive to stay with Verizon, whom I am reasonably happy with except for the no rollover deal.

Any suggestions what forums/websites I should go to to ge the best info on phone reviews and comparing plans?

3rd. Unless you are looking for a specific phone (e.g. Blackberries). Howardforums is the best I've run across.

For forums, and for general phone knowledge, I'd agree, howardforums is a great place.
modaco is also a good general resource, and offers some amazing communities for specific phone models.

More specific forums exist for each phone and for certain types of phones, droidforums.net is shaping up to be an amazing droid only forum, and in general androidforums.com is great too.

However, for general phone knowledge:
phonearena.com is an awesome phone information website. Upcoming, confirmed and rumored, phones, along with spec sheets for said upcoming phones (as well as full spec sheets for all phones), along with photos, comparison tools, and reviews, with user reviews allowed as well. Excellent resource when shopping around for phones.
