well they have the shittiest selection of phones of any provider for one. But being able to use unlocked GSM phones is a huge plus.

T-Mobile is awesome. They also use the 1900Mhz frequency, so you can order all of the Ericsson's and Samsungs that were not released for the Unied States and have it work on their network.

That's what I did. I have a Sony Ericsson K750i which I got off of ebay for $250, and it only works with T-Mobile in the US because Cingular uses the 850Mhz band for their cell network. I personally love T-Mobile, and would recommend it to anyone.

I dunno where u get ur info but its incorrect.

GSM Networks In USA

Cingular uses both 850 & 1900. Depending on the region they may have both or one or the other. Most of the time, even if you have a 1900 phone running in Cingular's 850 zone, it will bump to T-Mobile. Roaming & Roaming fees are things from the past. (some places still charge but not all).

(there are no new phones that are strictly 850 so you don't have to worry about the reverse scenario being true)

So to answer the OP's question. Depends on where you are located.

I have Tmobile, girlfriend has Cingular. If you live in the big city, they are both great. If you live out in the country, you are screwed. If I had to pick though, I'd go with Cingular cause even though a tad expensive, my g/f's phone gets signal at places mine doesn't.

Both of u should stick to one carrier... that way u can get unlimited mobile to mobile...

speaking of GSM providers, anyone know a cheap, reliable place to buy unlocked phones? I'm looking for a new Samsung X820 😀

You would have to be a dealer....

if u buy from unlocked retailer's... the margin is about $10-20 diff between dealers. If you get a new service plan, they are a lot more accomodating. Just dont get suckered into any 2 year plans.

X820 is not sold in the US by any provider yet. 🙂

resellerratings.com is a joke...I won't trust that site if my life depended on it.

myworldphone.com is a very reputable dealer...I've purchased over 10 phones and other items over the past year or so...

yeah right... i have also heard horrible things about that site on howardforums and phonescoop. steer clear of those sites selling unlocked phones. if you must, go on ebay and get it from a reputable seller, will save you the money & headache. and always pay with a credit card so you can dispute it if things go wrong.

cheapest "reputable" store so far is Tiger Direct. Just looking for places that might save me a little money, but not willing to risk losing it all.

Providers no... but independent dealers plenty....

I recently picked up my k750i from newegg, they had the bext price and a fairly decent selection to choose from. You can also check tigerdirect and amazon.

I'm currently using T-mobile and have no complaints
