Guys, I have been with Verizon for over 5 years and have finally decided to get rid of it. While the service and coverage is excellent, the price levels are bit too high. I'm looking for something with a high QOS at reasonable rates and that has cool phones.. What is everyone here using?

you will get roaming on ANY service unless you get nationwide long distance and no roaming clause in your contract.

ive always had verizon and dont mind the slight extra for the much better coverage.

I'm a long time Vzw person, and am considering switching to Cingular or Tmo. Tmo has the cheapest rates IIRC, and as for phones you just need an unlocked GSM phone and you can use it with your service. Very opposite of CDMA and it's technology.

cingular's $40 per mo plan seems best bang for buck for me, including nationwide long distance

Not true anymore.. Most services include nationwide roaming. I have travelled around 6 times this year and have probably spent 400-500 extra this year in just roaming.

Been with T-Mobile for a couple years now and have had great service and reception. I use a unlocked Motorola Razor V3 now with no issues.

I suggest staying with Verizon. I've heard nothing but bad things with T-Mobile and mediocrity with Cingular.

So the service and coverage are excellent with Verizon? Those are 2 of the most important things with a cell provider. Price?

How about $39.99 for 450 minutes, free Night & Weekends (Night Hrs (M?F): 9:01 p.m.?5:59 a.m/Wknd Hrs: 12:00 a.m. Sat.?11:59 p.m. Sun), free Long Distance, and no roaming charges (in America at least). Oh, free IN calling as well (free calls to other Verizon customers). The IN-calling and Night/Weekend minutes don't count towards the 450.

400-500 in roaming this year!!!

was reading all the stuff lately about the unlocked phones... does that also apply to prepaid plans? I just got a moto v330 (its a really nice phone and i probably wouldnt drop it anyways) but nobody seems to know since tmobile requires the codes to activate service on their prepaid account.

I switched to Tmobile from verizon recently. I don't have much complaints. I get service at some points where I don't with verizon, but I also lost some at some points. (points meaning area on campus)

As far as QOS, you won't get it good at any wireless store. They just want you to sign up for a contract, and that's all. T-mobile does have cooler phones though! I'm using the samsung D508, very very awesome phone!!!!!

You just have to ask yourself, do you want minutes or coverage area? T-mobile will give you more minutes, verizon will have provide better coverage.

ive been using US cellular for years...lots of minutes, basic coverage area is lousy in some places but my sister works there so the service is great

if you just get local coverage with them though, take a close look at a map....i was vacationing in VA and one part of a town was in my area, and one part of it wasnt :/ i had $100 in charges because i was staying in a condo in the uncovered area making calls.

Pretty much. The newest Vzn plans have NO roaming anywhere your phone gets service. There are places your phone will simply not work, but you won't pay roaming ever. For $40 you get 450 Anytime, Unlimited N/W and M2M, for another $5 you get Unlimited Txt/Pix to other Vzn phones and 50 to everybody else, free long distance. I fail to see how that's priced too high. It's one of the most reasonable plans out there, and the ones that offer more Anytime for less money have horrible coverage, like T-Mobile. Switch at your own risk, knowing full well you won't be able to switch back for a year or two.

Wrong. Verizon is consistantly rated top in customer service by JD Power and the BBB, for years now. The customer service at their stores is stellar, the only problem is generally a long wait to see somebody, since there's always a long line of people waiting for help or to buy phones. It isn't because Vzn understaffs their stores, it's because people are willing to wait in line to have their problems taken care of.

If you want decent service without the wait, ask around about local Radioshacks. Not all are topnotch, but there's always one or two in big areas that do a great job with cellular customers, and any problems you have you can go right in and see the same guy/girl who sold it to you originally, and generally get problems taken care of right away. The best stores will have built up a reputation of knowing what they're doing, so just ask a few buddies at work which Radioshack they go to for their cellphones (if they did) and that's the one to go check out.
