I'll be living in dykstra for the fall quarter and am currently looking at cell phone plans. Any advice on which service I should get? Thanks

verizon and nextel are both good, i had AT&T and it sucked really bad. I had some friends who had cingular and they could never put a call through due to "System Busy" messages. I have nextel now but will probably get verizon next month when my contract ends, nextel is just too expensive if you dont need the direct connect feature.

Anything but Cingular. I haven't used my phone much in that area so I wouldn't know.

<-- Uses Sprint

Verizon bar none- Cingular gets system busy all the time plus gets crappy reception in Westwood, so I think that T-Mobile would too (btw I think T-Mobile = Voicetream). AT&T gets nothing inside De Neve. Can't say anything about Sprint and Nextel because I haven't used them.

Verizon is the best all around.
Sprint is great for dorm areas, but it doesn't always work on campus.
Do NOT get AT&T or Cingular.
Dunno anyone that uses Nextel, but if it does work in the Westwood area, I've heard bad things about it in other areas...

Bottom Line: Verizon is the best.

PS - Verizon and Sprint have the best cell technology (CDMA) so you should definitely use them.

Yeah GSM (i.e. Cingular and T-Mobile/Voicestream) have never seemed very good to me. I have Sprint, and it's excellent. CDMA is the way to go! :) I used to have Cingular (then it was PacBell Wireless), and it SUCKED. Constant "system busy" errors, and very poor voice quality. I'll never use anything other than Sprint :)
