Best cd-rw drive?

What is the best or cheapest cd-rw drive that I can get for <200 bucks? I would like internal and good quality that has at least 8x.

I don't think you will find one capable of 8X under $200 yet, but it will not be long. I would recommend HP. My drive has been very reliable (8X) and it comes with great software (Adaptec).

panisonic makes some good CDRWs and sony does too
i have an HP myself....haven't had any problems with it....only the adaptec 3.5, but i have 4.0 now and it works fine

You might want to take a look at the Plextor 8x4x32x. It can be bought for under $200 from Onvia and Buy.com. From Buy.com, you might be able to take advantage of coupons to make it even lower.

I would get a Yamaha 8X8X24....Great drive (getting one this week)...

The drive comes with a 4mb buffer, and it supports most features (I believe it supports CloneCD, but I have read varied things about its compatibility with this program)...

The main reason I bought the drive was its cheap price tag- About $120 USD

(And from what I hear, I believe the drive comes with a fan?!)

Check priceline.com for Plextor 4/8/32. An awesome burner. . .could use a better software package. I've had one for six months, only made two coasters (one because my stinkin Win98 went through an unstable stage.)

The Creative 8432 is a rebandaged Plextor 8432....so is the QPS 8432...

If you are tight on money, you might want to pick one of those up!

is the hp 9100i any good? better than plextor?

on cnet's top 5 list of cd-rws, it has the hp on it and doesn't even mention plextor

Try to shop aaround for a Plextor or Yamaha if you have that kind of money to spend on a unit.

I know for a fact that you can easily buy the Yamaha 8x4x24x/4meg buffer for 160.
