IMO, Plextor and Lite-on. I have the Lite-On 32x12x40 and it's sweet. I use CloneCD myself, and I've burned about 20-25 "backups" since I got the drive and all work perfectly. Not to mention this thing is also very fast
I just had a 8x plextor die, after only a year of use, probably a lemon but I didn't buy another one. LG is great thus far and a great price, won several best buy awards.
Every model is different. Brand loyalty is foolish even when they do manufacture their own gear or at least partly manufacture and assemble themselves, or contract out anyway, or... well, you get the idea.
I've never shopped for a drive before, where is a good place to look?
Because I never shopped before I've never heard of some of the brands on the market.
Thats why I'm looking for user experience. I looked on the Lite-on web page and they are
claiming to be the fasted CD/RW on the market.
I'm just looking for something to utilize the full benefits of CloneCD, because my sister broke one
of my expensive CD programs getting it out of the jewel case.
I just got a Plextor 40/12/40a and it's kickin' ass. I highly reccomend it on speed alone, and with Plextor's track record in my personal experiences I don't expect to have any problems in the future.
Go to Hotdeals forum, and look for CD burner deal from Staples and OfficeMAX.
You can get them cheap and they're very reliable.
Don't forget to use the coupons.
I have Lg 32X drive. A great package. Very quiet compared to my Plextor 121032A and Aopen 24X drive.
