Best CD-ROM Out There.....

My Kenwood 72x CD-ROM just sh!t the bed. I loved the drive because it was quiet, and was fast as hell. Well I can't find any of these anywhere now. I'm not sure why that is, but I need a drive ASAP. I thought there was a Sony slot loading drive out there, but can't seem to find one of those either. I just want a CD-ROM, not a DVD or CD-RW combo. Does anyone know where I can find another Kenwood drive? If not, what is the best internal IDE drive available to buy currently? Thanks!

Teac 40x... don't let the 40 fool you... its faster than most 52x's and has great seek time.. and can read just about any CD... pretty $$ i think about 45-50

GlassDaddy why wouldn't you get a DVD? If you check out cdspeed2000 and look at their top 10 list, I think you may be surprised! Sure, this Kenwood 72x CD drive is #1 for overall speed in optical drive, but look what's second place! LiteOn 16x/48x DVD drive! Also I have one of these drives and they rock the house! They don't slow down and speed up like most DVDs do, they just start slow and end fast like regular CD drive (a la Nero CD Speed). Also, you can find them for $50, which is cheap IMO, especially for getting DVD too! just my $.02. woot woot for LiteOn!

I have 2 of these LiteOn DVD drives (LTD163) and they rock. They rip so fast I was surprised. I finally decided to try one after buying (and returning) an AOpen DVD (to loud - high pitched whine) and a Toshiba DVD (to damn slow - would only rip audio CD's at 6X speed and DVD's at 2x!!! 🙁 ). Get the LiteOn, you won't be disappionted.

When joshg says they start slow, he means they start reading at about 25x and end at ~50x...
