i'd like to put about $85,000 into a 6 month cd and i'd like a little advice. can anyone recommend the best rate right now? i've looked at bankrate.com but I'd like to hear personal experiences. also, i'd like an account that lets me do weekly withdrawals with no penalty.

my local wells fargo lists a 5 month cd at 2.2% with no penalty on weekly withdrawals. can anyone top this?

thanks,
joel

US Treasury bills are yielding 2.32% @ 6 months. Any they are liquid (no penalty like CD).

You can also try Corporate Bonds if you can handle a little risk. General Motors bonds were yeilding about 4% (I doubt GM will go bad on their bonds).

If you are willing for higher return and a little more risk try a REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust). The one I have in my IRA is ticker symbol NLY, yields 10% in dividends, higher total return if the stock goes up, lower of course if the stock goes down. However, unless there are major movements in the interest rate in the next 6 months, the stock won't move much.
