Best CD => MP3 tools?

If you must convert to mp3, yep. If you want better sound quality at the same bitrate though, I'd recommend EAC -> ogg, or flac if you have the space. Most who knock sound quality simply haven't experienced a nice setup. The rest are deaf 🙂

Wrong forum btw.

Yup... the absolute best extraction tool coupled with the absolute best ripping tool... and made easy for people to use too!

Well, since my other 200 albums are ripped into mp3s at 192kb/sec bitrate, I'm kind of going for consistency.

Another vote for this setup. I've been using it for a few years.
OK, then enlighten me, why do you need Lame?
You don't if you don't want MP3 encoding, you do if you do.

EAC has no built-in encoding it uses external libraries and command-line encoders.

I appreciate sound quality without being snobby about it. Music I like in less than ideal formats or bitrates is plenty enjoyable - if it sounds better it's simply a bonus 🙂

Sounds better than its competitor, Fraunhofer. Also is open source freeware. This is for mp3, btw - I'd still recommend ogg over lame for lossy compression.
