Some cards have limits on cash back. Citi Dividend Platinum Select has 5% on gas, supermarkets, and drugstores; up to $300.

i have the discover platinum gas card, 5% back on gas, 1% on everything else, and you can double your cashback bonus through certain places, though I just apply the amount towards my monthly balance.

I have a visa card from AAA. At first it was 5% back (for like a year till they changed it) and now its 3% back on all gas purchases anywhere with no limit. Im not sure how to get it or if you have to be a AAA member, but the login site is over at www.aaanetaccess.com

if you use shell, there is a 5% rebate for shell gas.
