Hi Anandtech community:

Please share your knowledge here. The card is a Radeon 5850, and well ATI is focusing on the 6000 series, which means that probably the 5000 series wont get much improvements from Catalyst drivers from now on.

So with this in mind i ask, what are the best catalyst drivers for the 5000 series in regards to performance and stability?

Not a fan on constantly changing drivers because its risky so i want to settle with a good one.

Happy rest of the day :)

i had good luck with 10.10e. 10.4 and 10.7 also seemed to be good ones depending on the games you play.

The newest ones would be good. They add some nice improvements and I tried them on a 5770, pefrectly stable.

You might as well just install whichever driver AMD directs you to, there's no significant reason to worry about performance or stability with an older card unless you specifically know going in to the install of specific issues a newer driver has with the older card.

11.2 were working great for me. 11.4 preview ones are chugging along nicely now (albeit with a small hiccup during installation).

Unless you're playing Dragon Age 2, grab the newest WHQLs from AMD's Web site. If you do play DA2, go get the preview ones.

Very insightful answers, very pleased :)

Well the thing some times there are some regresions with a new set of drivers. Instances when it does more harm than good, I.E. maybe say... in 2 games you got performance improvements and maybe in 10 you lost some frames. Or your PC became more inestable.

Thats why i hope to get out of this thread some kind of average. May tendency is to try to stick to what it works but maybe i'll have to do some OS reinstallation and the current Catalyst version is missing some significant improvements like MLAA. So if theres little risk for me to upgrade, why not do it to a more feature rich suit?

I have a 5850 and 11.2 are the drivers you want. AMD claims the fixed the mipmap filtering transition zones.

5750 here, been using 11.2 but I get issues with Starcraft. Although some people using Nvidia cards have been reporting the mouse issue. I'm coming to the conclusion that it's a Starcraft issue and not ATI.

In any case been using 11.2, rock solid. I may move to a 6 series card soon though.
