Whats the best case out there right now? Do you think having a really good case is worth it? I mean it doesn't seem like a case can die like any normal hardware one day.
 
Trust Me! The more you spend on a case, the more enjoyable that case will be to work in and more than likely look at. Ive owned a few cheaper cases then upgraded to the antec p160 and now to the monarch hornet sff case. And the more expensive ones are a pleasure to work with, while the others are not. For example, more than likely the more expensive cases will have removable motherboard trays and maybe in hdd trays and rails.

As for a suggestion, I woud suggest aluminium. And any antec or lian-li is nice. Thermaltake and Cooler Master also have nice cases. For the price the kingwin KT-424-BK-WM is a very nice case. Good Luck on finding the perfect case!
 
Well looks are subjective but performance is not so I will just post a few cases that I drool over and are known good performers ...

#1 Lian-Li V2000A comes in black or silver , huge and luxurious ..the chome wheels and axles really set it off.
Massive performance as its big and airy as a case can get since the entire thing has holes in it.

#2 Cooler Master CM Stacker, huge and heavy and huge..did I say huge? 🙂


#3 Hmm..,the first 2 were about the only ones that I want more than the one I have so I will post it.
Cooler Master Praetorian comes in black or silver. @ 2mm thick its double the thickness of a Lian-Li V60 and IMO its a step above in build quality. The removable motherboard tray is a treat to work with (see sig).
The case is beautiful and classy. It is not as big as the two above so its not going to be as cool , however its plenty. This is the Mercedes-Benz of cases.
 
You need to define what your best case entails. Different cases are better for different things.

My personal favorite out ther right now is the CM Stacker.

lol...unless you're rich i wouldn't spill that much money on cases...

the quailty difference between a good $100 and the $200 case arent that big. what you're paying for really is design and looks (which are important too). and some other little stuff. but $200 is a little extreme, unless you have the money.

though i recommend a well built case, i went for some cheap nice looking one i found at pricewatch for $30. quality wise...it's a POS. made the set up a big hassle. but once i am done, i dont care for it...it's not like i am going to kick it to see how well built it is. but the best part is, it looks really nice...like a $100 case, but only for $30.

anyways, cheap cases will do. just find one that suits your flavor. sometimes having an ugly case is worse than a crappy built one cause looking at it doesn't make you proud at all.
 
Look at the Lian Li cases. Most of them are all aluminum,have thumscrews, removable motherboard trays, and a good cooling fan configuration.
 
I have one by AOpen... it is fairly well built and decent enough to work with. Much better than the Dell my friend has. (I hate opening it up to work on it for him) It is just a stock steel case, but at least it has side pannels that remove rather than the whole cover. I can live with out thumb screws if the case is easy to open otherwise. The feature I like best in a cheaper tower is a removable hard drive rack. That is a must for me, unless I get a really good deal. 😉
 
Whats the most you all would spend on a case? It seems like a case can last forever and its a good investment for down the road whenever you upgrade it, build a new pc, if you use the same case, etc.
 
Well now that BTX will be coming around the corner, I wouldn't necessarily want to fork out that much dough on a case. Luckily I just had an old Dell XPS R based system (was my main) that I was planning on upgrading so when the time came around to upgrade, I just replaced the mobo and graphics card with better stuff and then I got what I have in my sig. I later got better optical drives etc but otherwise this case was essentially free (Circa 1998). The next time I build a system is when this system become severely out of date and by the time that happens, BTX will be around. Max I would fork out on a BTX would be about $250 MAX.
 
If you're actually worried about BTX compatibility for some odd reason (it probably will not be mainstream for years), the Cooler Master CM Stacker can be converted between ATX and BTX.
 
now that i finally own a lian-li i can say this is the best case i've ever had, its a pleasure to work with but not to downgrade the antec sonata was a nice case to work with and even though its quite cliche or just kinda old the old really popular chieftec case was a great case to work with, it had tons of space or just about anything
