Best case in town? Antec 900?

greetings,

i usually purchase a cheap-o case that meets my bay requirements, now that my overclocked system suffers from poor case airflow and high temperatures, i would like a recommendation for an upgrade.

Is there a standard "great deal-high performance" case that people suggest. I've heard p-190 & 900

but like i said, i know nothing of cases. Recommendations please.

thank you,
jared

Coolermaster Stacker. I have the 830 and it has lots of ventilation and space. It's easy to retro for watercooling too.

ty ruby! I wont have water cooling and particularly like the cases where the PSU is under the motherboard, and heat is exhausted through the top of the case. Also cases that come with a lot of 120/90/200mm fans all over would be good to. I am looking for excellent airflow, and upgrading my cabling too as not to obstruct good case air-flow. Also i hear the stacker is an expensive beast, can anyone make recommendations at the 100$ price range. give or take 50 bucks

The Antec 900 is apparently very loud. I was considering the P190, myself, but was steered towards the P182 instead. It lacks the gigantic side fan, but it still has 3 120 mm fans and space for 2 more which is still quite substantial. You might also wait to see what the Antec 1200 has to offer. It seems like a pretty spiffy case.

alright ill check out the 1200, i just looked on newegg and the 900 is the 2nd most purchased/commented case of all the cases they sell.

its got 5 eggs too. i espcially like the single 200mm fan on top of the case, and they say its quiet with variable speeds.

Cooler Master 690, NZXT Zero (slightly cut down Stacker), Stacker 832 evolved (not sure, but around $130 with some rebates thrown in too.)

The 1200 is pretty much a bigger, badder version of the 900 AFAIK.

I have a 900 and I hate it with a passion. The cable management, or lack there of is a nightmare. If you buy go ahead and figure in the cost of a dremel as you are not going to have any chance with out one. It is also a pain in the ass to work on. To change out a drive you must remove bith side panels and take out four thumbscrews per drive. Although not a problem for me but if you have a larger video card it is going to be right up against the hard drives.

But it does have great air flow, if you take the time and effort for the cable management. With the fans on medium the noise is tolerable, on high it is way to loud. On low it is very quiet but moves almost no air. It is also a dust magnet with all the fans and no filters.

The CM 690 looks like a great case for the money. It looks like antec is correcting many of the problems with the 1200 but looks like it is going to be fairly expensive. You can't go wrong with a stacker, I like the 832 myself. If I had it to do over again I probably would got with a P182.

I'd suggest taking a look at the C-M 690 as well. Only things I really don't like is the way the trays make you mount the HDDs and the metal in the grill areas is quite weak.

If you're patient you may be able to snag a P180 for $80-90 shipped from newegg. It does have the PSU on the bottom and I've outfitted mine with the basic swiftech apex 120 kit to mimic the swiftech premodded p180 case.

I have this case and its great!

o_O

Should that be labeled as sarcasm?

It has three 80mm fans.....

I'm not following ya DerwenArtos12... sarcasm??

I don't mean to seem like a prick but, there is no way to have that case cool *well* and simultaneously be quiet. I've built system in the lian li 6 series and they're great quality but, with nothing but 80mm fans there is just no way to get adequate airflow into that case without sacrificing on silence. It's the exact reason that Ll made the PC-7B with 120mm fans front and rear. I won't argue the quality of the case nor it's merrits as a just a good case but, it cannot compete it either of the two main categories that make a great case, cooling power and silence.

Understand. The case actually has four 80mm fans (there is one on the top). I use three and the case cools fine albeit I am not a hardcore OCer. You are right about the quality, its amazing. CoolerMaster for 15 bucks IS a bargain for sure.

Thank you Brutus. I'm nearing the end of my caffeine supply and left more than enough leeway for you to start a flamefest with me and I may have gone along but, you didn't and I appreciate that. You don't just so happen to be the same brutus that I used to get in flamefests with a few years ago, mostly in video, are you?

Time fer coffee.

coffee, pffft, i order gaurana beans through a local health foods store and either grind them up and mix them with coffee or tea or just suck on them. They taste HORRIBLE but, one of those beans has as much caffeine as about a gallon of coffee.

I also have a 900 and am not very fond of it either. I agree with everything bh stated. Cable management is a PITA, especially my 8 pin PS cable. It's dremel time. It's only plus is that it does move a lot of air with all it's fans on medium, and I like it's look.
Here's some pics for the OP. I've since replaced the 7600GT with a Gigabyte 8800GT.
