Best case for quiet computer. New poll Lanboy v. Sonata

I'd probably go with one of the Antec cases, depending on the features you need, and get some quiet Panaflow L1A fans or 120mm fans.

Antec 3700AMB is very good. The Enermax 1018x series. Ahanix Black Knight (actually several of the new Ahanix models).
.bh.

I have an antec sonota and do not find it as quiet as I would like. Could be I am unrealistic though and do not have experience with any other cases. The cpu and vid card make next to no noise, I think most of the noise comes from the power supply now.

I currently have a Antec 1080Amg with all five fans(on low) and it does not bother me too much. Do you think a sonata would be louder?

Antec SLK3700AMB, modded. It is one of the top choices for quiet PC peeps.

What do you mean by modded ?

Cut out the fan grills. They're a bit restrictive compared to it's cousin the 3700BQE.

BTW - My vote on your poll was for the 3700BQE. Both that and the 3700AMB have the best airflow of any of the cases on your list so are easier to cool with less powerful (read: "quieter") fans.

I am thinking about going with the Sonata. I have one of Antec's 2600 cases and it is louder than a car. Unless they really changed the Solution series power supply, its way to loud. I was just looking for someone that has it to see if it is really worth that much.

Looks great !!, did the window on the side add to noise levels?

amd fanboy - The sonota does look great. Definitely quieter than a car. The trouble with noise reduction is every time you reduce noise you hear something else. I have spent a small fortune, with no end in sight .

In terms of best bang for the buck, I would research here
silent pc

All this going to house is one of the old Fry's K7S5A and 1.3 Duron combos with an 80 GB WD so it can't be too much.
I already got a Tr2-M1 from newegg(rated at 21db). It's just a small server, I just don't what to hear or notice it.

put it in a closet if you can. I think low noise fans and air flow are the major issues here, so any case with good air flow should be fine.

Glad you like it. No additional noise that I noticed but the fan noise is up becuase of the additional UV CCFL tubes putting an extra load on the PSU causing it to raise case fan RPM's so now i'll need a seperate fan controller for them 🙁

Like you said it's a never ending battle.. lol

Anyone know of a cheap place to get the Sonata, I found Amazon @ $100 shipped.

Btw, does anyone know how loud the original Lanboy is?

I love mine. No, it's not the quietest thing on the planet, but it's a step in the right direction. When I need even mroe silent, I think I'll be building from scratch (like out of wood or something). I don't see myself getting there any time soon.

If your talking about the Antec Super Lanboy, that case is MAD quiet...I built my friends PC in one...he even accidently snapped off one of those rubber mounting things for the back fan and I still can't hear when the thing is running or not.

If you want a cool looking case that is quiet I can tell you you won't be disappointed with the Antec Super Lanboy.
Only thing I would warn you about is it is a mini tower which will make your setup very cramped if you have a huge gfx card like the nvidia 5900.
