Best career site ?

For those who have been in the market recently, what is your experience with any of these sites?

I'm a software developer and I would like to leave my current job and find another one in a larger city.

Since I am currently employed and only casually looking for another job, I'd like to pick one or two of the best job sites to check on a daily or weekly basis. What I really want to know is which one has the most postings for "real" full-time positions. Which site has generated the most calls, interviews, offers for you all?

Dice seemed like it would be good for tech jobs, but it seems like 90% of the listings there are for contract positions. With a house, a wife, and kids, I'm reluctant to consider contract positions.

If you are employed and just casually looking, I recommend the temp agencies. I have a few temp jobs with good pay in the last year or so. I didn't have any luck with the big boys (Monster, Careerbuilder, Hotjobs, ect.) yet. Of course, I am not really pursuit very hard.

AJB and netemps are my two favorites. careerbuilder used to be pretty nice, but it has so many 'work from home' ads now that searching takes too long. monster is a joke.

what i would do instead is try to find companies you're interested in and contact them directly - something like 75% of the jobs filled today are filled through personal referrals and/or walkins - the jobs are never posted externally, yet they get filled.

best of luck - i'm in the exact same situation as you are....

Vault.com

Costs money, but hands down the best. I suggest researching companies you're interested in and then call them on the phone. Don' t apply online.

What I meant was that I wasn't desperate to find another job as soon as possible. But I am looking to leave my current job and find another permanent full-time position. I'm not interested in temping, but I might be interested in a contract job if it was long-term and paid well enough to make up for the lack of benefits.

The hard part is finding the name of a real person to talk to instead of just being told to submit a resume on their website. Unfortunately, I don't have any connections anywhere.

anoter vote for vault. a lot of good job information. focuses more on finance and consulting though.

vault sucks if you ask me. I couldn't find anything in all of NC for tech jobs. Since the OP is in the tech sector, I doubt this will be any better than Monster or the like...

Monster seems pretty worthless from what I've seen and heard (i.e. it's flooded with crap and all the good jobs have already been hammered with 50 bazillion other applicants)

You might try Craig's List if you've got one in your neck of the woods.
