Love my ECS K7S5A PRO v5.0

However, I just discover that it won't work with AGP 8X Boards like ATI Radeon 9600se

What is the BEST VIDEO CARD for this motheboad?

Odd..so what's the difference between the K7S5A Pro v5.0 and the Non-Pro K7S5A v3.1 boards? My brother is running the v3.1 board with a 9800 and it works fine.

I think the mobo actually supports 4X AGP, so anything should work as most 8x cards are 4x compatible, but apparently it doesn't like that 9600se. Try screwing with the bios setting. Set all to failsafe defaults?? Maybe just a bum 9600??

Just an FYI, I have an ECS K7S5A v3.1 (non Pro) and I'm running a GeForce 6800GT on it. Sounds like it may be an issue with your 9600.

K7S5A, pro or not, do work with 4x/8x-only cards like the 9600 series. I'm sure about this, I have direct access to one such system. It's a K7S5A v1.0 (!) and there's a Sapphire 9600 in there.

I had 2 ECS K7VTA3 ver.8c mobo's that would not boot with a PNY GeForce 4200 64 mb 8X AGP video card.

They would run an MSI GeForce 4200 128 4X card though.

Related problem maybe?

I know a friend of mine who uses this board and run fine with Radeon 9800 Pro (BBA)

Edit: Might want to look for BIOS update for the motherboard and/or video card. That may help. Also my gf's machine is running a 9800SE on 2x AGP with no problem at all (so I wouln't think the 9600SE would be incompatible with your K7S5A board. (I mean isn't 9800SE newer than 9600SE? and your K7S5A is obviously newer than my gf's P2 board)

2nd Edit: I've just looked at ECS website again (link here) ... and it says under Expansion Slots 1 AGP (4X) (Actually all K7S5A has AGP 4X slot) ... so Peter007 might want to check that card on other system, it could be that the card is the problem not your system.

X800XTPE and 6800Ultra are the best agp cards correct? Either one of those would be the fastest for your board. Cpu would likely limit it, so you better run at 1600X1200 with aa/af or at 2048X1536.

Thanks Everyone for the Reply. Could it be that older K7S5A v.1 -v.3 has better AGP support?

Here is My Sequence:

1. I've plug the ATI 9600SE into K7S5A = NO POST. Computer Speaker beeps 3 times
2. Remove 9600se, and plug back in my Radeon 8500 = Post
....check ECS bios setting and (DISABLE+ ENABLE) AGP 4X
.....AGP 4X disable = No Post
.....AGP 4X enable = No Post
.....I've concluded the card was no good.
3. Put it in ABIT KR7A (old KT266A) viola, Post and go into Windows?

....Conclusion - Radeon 9600SE is fine, but didn't work on my motherboard?
....Strange is that I had a 128mb Nvidia 5200, and that works fine on my K7S5A Pro
....Could it be that Radeon 9600SE is an AGP 3.0 ONLY cards that won't work in AGP 2.0 MB?

K7S5A Manual say its an AGP 2.0 - 1.5V only MB :(
but I have read may forum post where people had successfully plugin an AGP 3.0 Card into AGP 2.0 MB
without problem

Does anyone out there has the same K7S5A PRO v5.0 with ATI 9600se?

I most definitely had 9600SE cards (ECS's own one, incidentally) in K7S5A (pro) too. No problem there. Remember the basic rule, "stuff isn't as compatible as you might think". Certain card/mainboard combinations don't work although they perfectly well should - AGP is pretty fragile in that regard, actually.

Also, although that's pretty unlikely given the 9600SE's power draw, you might have a weak PSU that doesn't deliver enough juice on the 3.3V rail. (Remember that AGP _supply_ voltage is 3.3V; the "1.5V" figure you see is the _signalling_ voltage for 4x/8x modes.)
