What the topic says....

I'm building a computer for a friend and he specifically told me not to spend more than $60 on the video card so does anyone have any suggestions on the best card under $60?

Thanks

If he's a gamer, make him buy this. Read the budget cards roundup on the main AT site to see just how good the gf4 ti4200 still is.

Next cheapest decent card would be a used geforce3, probably about $50 shipped for a ti500 or orginal, $40-50 for a ti200.

ti500 is a sexy card... mx440 = crap... dont get it, performance of... well, crap. Ti500 will be good even for todays games... ti200 has a pretty big performance drop from the 500

oh and thanks for all the suggestions

its decent, but i would spend a little more and get a 8500/8500le/9100, for around 70and up offers much better performance

Im in the same situation. I need a nice video card to play games once in awhile, but my machine is intended for work and school. I dont have any interest in nvidia cards, but i do have a passion for the ati built ones, specifically the nice radeon ones

The problem for me is understanding radeon family nomenclature (for example a 8500 is better than a 9200 or a 9100 is better than a 9200) anyone know a good site to brief me on the fundamentals of radeon naming etc...Im actually looking to spend enough to play half life 2 when it comes out. Whats a good radeon card thatll last for while that wont dent my wallet. I am still saving for rims for my car.

A Ti4200 is a great card if you can get one for $60. Otherwise, I would save $5 on another part and get the 9100 as suggested by others.

personally id prefer a used 8500, its a bit faster than a 9100 but its not a terribly large difference
a gf3 would also be a good choice, though after using both, i think the 8500 was a better card

That benchmark showed the FX5200 128MB and MX440 8X as being very good cards for their prices, but I thought the MX440 sucked?

the mx440 sucked when it was priced the same as a 8500le/9100. now that it dropped to like 60 bucks, its a decent card
