i'm not a heavy gamer at all... just want something to replace my x700, needs to be pci-e, thanks in advance! rest of system..

chaintech vnf4
a64 3000+
1gig pc3200

thanks!

a 7600GT would be the best, but its little bit more expanisve, i am think 160?

Well look for a 6800GS or a x800

The Egg has an eVGA GeForce 7600 GT KO for $170 - $30 rebate, making it $140 all said and done. I've got a CO (only difference is the coolant in the heatsink as far as i know, maybe a little clock boost), and it's a decent card, especially in that price range. An alternative, probably $150 before rebates would be the Radeon X850 XT, which can easily be clocked to PE speeds. Just check out Newegg, assuming you're in the US.

agreed. 7600GT is a great card for midrange.

Yep, I've got one of the eVGA KO models; Never had to RMA due to heat problems, runs at 580/1500 and idles at ~50C with stock cooler and load temps don't go much over 60. However if you are planning to OC one of these I would definitely recommend a VF900 or NVsilencer6 Rev 2 (YES, it fits)...just read this:

alright then guys, i'll probably look around for a 7600gt thanks a lot! will a 330W psu cut it... i have the antec sonta case..

what kind of PSU is it? What kind of amperage on the +12V Rail (s)? List your specs also for your computer

I have a Fortron 400W with +16V and +18V on the dual +12V rails and it works fine

Sonata (I) comes with a True 380w, if that's what you have, it should be enough.

The 7600 GT doesn't even require a 6-pin PCIe molex, so I'm willing to bet that if your board can handle an X700, a 7600 GT shouldn't be any problem. The added 4 pins to the main mobo power connector help to supply power to the PCIe cards, which is why cards like the 6600 GT don't require a molex in PCIe, but they do in AGP. You should be alright with a 330 watt PSU, especially an Antec.

I myself think it's worth it. I'm not sure about how much of a performance ncrease you'll get(I've never seen any benchies that compare these two cards) but the image quality will be quite noticeable.

I wouldn't say... although it depends how much you can get for your X850 pro, and how much the 7600 will cost when you're buying. A friend of mine has an X850 XT (@ PE), and our performances are about the same GPU wise (he has opty 146 and i had A64 3200, so he was a littler better CPU). I would recommend you just buy a nice heatsink/fan and OC the snot out of that thing!

To be honest, the cards look identical. I would opt for the KO though (the cheaper one) as it has a better heatsink/fan apparatus on it. I hear it also uses better thermal paste (probably AS5)... the clock and memory speeds are the same.

Thanks for the advice, maybe I will get a 7600 GT and compare the two. 🙂

anyway, under $150 US the 7600GT is the good choice. If you can pull out $70 more, though, the X1800XT is a much better choice - provided you have the cash. even if you don't the 7600GT will last you quite a while.

The powercolor x800 GTO will blow your old x700 out of the water @ $100 @ newegg, let alone the x850xts... the 7600GT uses a lot less power though, and should offer pretty good performance for todays games. Good choice!
